Notes: One of Hampshire's most beautiful woodland areas covering an area of some 323 acres. The poet, Edward Thomas, lived at Yew Tree Cottage (1913-1916) before his death in the First World War. The yews along this path feature one of his poems, called The Path:'Running along a bank, a parapet/That saves from the precipitous wood below/ The level road, there is a path. It serves/ Children for looking down the long smooth steep,/ Between the legs of beech and yew'.
