Notes: Bettws Newydd Church is a well preserved and restored medieval parish church, probably founded in the twelfth century with a dedication to St Aeddan. The present fabric is fifteenth century. The site was originally an oratory founded by St Aedan of Ferns (558-632), an Irish saint, who founded several churches in Wales and was also known as St Aidan of Llawhaden. Its foundation has also been attributed to Gerald of Wales, who toured this area in 1188 (notes by Peter Norton). This is a multiple tree site with 3 significant yews.
