Notes: In newspaper accounts of 1976 it was reported that Field-Marshal Viscount Montgomery of Alemain (Monty) was buried in Binsted, 'beneath a 250-year-old yew tree'. The tree in question is at the far end of the churchyard, just before the path takes you into open countryside. The yew is considerably older than 250 years, but it does not give the impression of being the tree reported in Hampshire Treasures Volume 6 (1979/86), which noted 'Very old yews, one said to be over eight hundred years old'. Whether that description was incorrectly applied to one of the trees found in this churchyard, or whether an old yew has been lost from this site is not known.
