Notes: The church is accessed along a 'private' drive. The Boxwell estate is owned by the Huntley family, one of whom married in the church as long ago as 1554. Part of of it has SSSI status and its box trees are noted in Richard Mabey`s Flora Britannica. The visit was made primarily to find St Mary's Well, with the anticipation of locating the 'two large yew trees' reported in 1928 as marking the site of the spring. Sadly this is no longer the case and two willows now mark the spot. We were told that two stumps (not of great size) could still be located, but several feet of brambles covered the site at the time of the visit. The bonus was to discover 3 male yews in the churchyard, including the fine fine hollow specimen recorded here.
