Notes: The present building dates from 1825 and replaces an older church. The significant yew grows on the NNE perimeter of this large churchyard. H.Thornhill Timmins in 1899 described 'a great dark yew-tree and yonder is the holy well'. This is found in the garden of one of the old cottages opposite the churchyard, though the well is now blocked up. 1852: A visitation of the Seats and Arms of the Noblemen and Gentlemen volume 1, p268 - Sir Bernard Burke. At Hopton Wafers "a few old yew trees alone remain to mark the spot where on the 22nd June 1604, we find that Richard Hyde the elder was succeeded by his son and heir...."
