Notes: A notice by the yew suggests that it was planted at the time of Charlemagne, which would give it an age of 1200/1300 years. This would suggest a significant site long before the first church was constructed in the 12th century. It also tells of a forester called Richard, who was killed in around 1795 when fighting in the revolution on the side of the 'mouvement chouan'. His remains are said to be buried beneath the tree's roots. Is the possible that the rectangular stone seen under the roots are what remains of his tombstone? See last photo.
