Notes: This is a picturesque site with the yews standing resplendent along a leafy 'Dean', which is the local name for these small sunken valleys. A public footpath runs through this one in a north westerly direction from the church. It is another instance in Shropshire (see also Hope Bagot and Canon Pyon) of significant yews in a lane leading to a churchyard. The path sits on bedrock with little or no soil; this and the falling leaves and moss made the walking conditions dangerous. The trees need to be seen from the Dean to fully appreeciate how beautifully they perch on the edge of the fields overhanging the path. From the gate fifty metres further north from tree D it was possible to see other yews in the landscape. Since these appear to be in field hedgerows away from public footpaths, permission will be needed to discover more of these remarkable old specimens.
