Notes: Peter Norton 2016: The site was first recorded on this website as Otterbourne chalk pit. More recent research shows that it was never used for chalk extraction. One possibility is that it was an ancient marl pit. It is found on Google Maps at 51.016175, -1.347586. In 2009 Hugo Egleston recorded seven yews at this site, the two oldest growing in the bottom of the pit, with the remaining five around the edge.
