Notes: The present Owlpen Manor dates to about 1523 and almost certainly replaced a medieval house. As well as the notable yew, the site also boasts a striking yew arbor, consisting of twelve yews as well as many clipped yews. Most of the trees in the arbour are unmeasurable (three of these are seen in photos 4/6) but appeared to be in the range 4' to 8'. They are thought to have been planted as a parterre in the formal garden, but appear in their present form as a topiary arbour in engravings by about 1840. The gardens are occasionally open to the public. For more information go to www.owlpen.com
