Notes: In the early 1800s Stoke Charity was described in several travel books as 'a small village remarkable for numerous surrounding yew trees, that either must have been the natural growth of the place, or the relics of its former consequence'. We can perhaps anticipate that there are yews older than this single churchyard specimen still to be found in the surrounding countryside.
