Notes: Most of the yews here are of a spreading form having colonised former downland. They are in an area of pure yew on a steep slope on thin chalky soil, where the ground is strewn with flints. They are almost concealed within a plantation of Thuya. The land where the yews are found is approximately 450 yds by 100 yds (in the widest places) from SU367531 to SU363335. Most of the trees have leaf galls and appear thinly foliaged, with curtains of upright shoots along the branches. I saw no dead yews. The five recorded here are all female. Many have had their bark nibbled by deer very recently. At the time of this visit I saw Muntjack and Fallow Deer.
