Notes:An ‘hourglass’ shaped yew, veteran at the moment but future research may show it to older still. 455 cm at its narrowest, 611cm at base. There are reasons for supposing that the Hourglass is the oldest tree in the forest. It is by the track at the forest entrance end of the Gravel Hill Lane public car park.(GPS 51dg 10.98mn N 00dg 51.22mn W) Although it is not the largest of the Alice Holt yews it has a most peculiar and fascinating pattern of growth. A full account of this tree is found on page 5 of http://www.ancient-yew.org/userfiles/file/Alice%20Holt.pdf
