Barrow House

Tree ID: 158

Yews recorded: Ancient 5m-7m

Tree girth: 544cm

Girth height: at 60cm

Tree sex: male

Date of visit: 20-Jun-02

Source of earliest mention: 1999: Cumbrian Yew Book - Ken Mills

Notes:

June 2002 – Tim Hills: Much of the bole was covered in twiggy growth which can be seen high into the tree. Foliage was rather thin. Girth of 17′ 10″ (544cm) at 2′ (5′ where land falls away).
December 2018 – Helen Leaf: Measured at 0.5m above the higher ground and recorded a girth of 6.27m. This was just below a branch that juts out at the front of the tree. The increase from 5.44m measured at a similar height in 2002 is probably explained by development of the copious twiggy growth on this section of the yew. The girth was recorded keeping the tape ‘snug to this but not over-tight’.
