Notes:2002 – Tim Hills: Two yews, supposed to have been planted “on the same day in 1854 by Henry, 1st Viscount Hardinge and the rt. Hon WE Gladstone, men alike remarkable for their patriotism and honesty, the former chiefly in military, the latter in civil affairs.” These words are found on a slate seat between the yews. The trees are male and female, the latter a fine looking tree of 9′ 8” (295cm) girth at 3′, with a ridged bole with many holes in it. It is a tall tree with much branching. The male, also very tall, rises in two parallel branches. Low growth made measurement impossible.
