Tree ID: 2194
Yews recorded: Ancient 4m-5m
Tree girth: 450cm
Girth height: at 90cm
Tree sex: female
Date of visit: 25-Feb-06
Source of earliest mention: 1954: Rev. J.L.Marshall - information sent to E.W.Swanton
Notes:A misleading measurement of 27′ (827cm) at the ground in 1954 must have included the spreading roots.
February 2006 – Tim Hills: I found a gap at the ground revealing it to be hollow, in spite of its very solid appearance. I recorded a girth of 14′ 9” (450cm) at 3′.
2009 – Jon Burgess: An update on the yew at Bickenhall (owned by the Woodland Trust). It lost a couple of limbs in the snow over the winter and looks a bit denuded although hopefully still healthy.I am afraid to say that I am going to have to consider a slight reduction on the remaining crown as it is heavily decayed and leaning toward the adjacent house, although I will of course be as sensitive as possible.
2015 – Tim Hills: Measured at its narrowest waist, about 2′ above the spreading roots, where girth was 14′ 4” (437cm).
