Billingsley

Tree ID: 288

Yews recorded: Ancient 4m-5m

Tree girth: 424cm

Girth height: at 30cm

Tree sex: female

Date of visit: 9-Aug-98

Source of earliest mention: 1939: The King's England - Arthur Mee

Notes:

August 1998 – Tim Hills: This yew grows SW of the church. The bark has been stripped from this unhealthy looking tree. Girth 13′ 9” (419cm) at 1′, swelling to 20′ 3” (617cm) at the bulge.
2017 – Paul Wood: The yew still appears to be very much in decline. It seemed that a good 80% of what we see is dead and dying wood and there were few signs of new growth and very little foliage, though what there is is evenly distributed over the short crown and canopy. I recorded 13′ 11” (4.24m) at 1′.
