Tree ID: 4654
Yews recorded: Ancient 4m-5m
Tree girth: 450cm
Girth height: at narrowest
Tree sex: unspecified
Date of visit: 20-May-15
Source of earliest mention: 2015: Paul Wood
Notes:Doug Lloyd: The yew has for decades been ‘hidden’ within an old hedge/bank that has recently had some work done on it. It was measured at its narrowest point close to the ground. It is urn shaped and has two phases of growth, with old gnarled deadwood inside the urn shaped main trunk section. There is rot underneath this and you can look beneath the tree in most directions, the buttresses of the roots being the only points touching the ground. A girth of 14′ 9” (450cm) at its narrowest was recorded.
November 2015 – Paul Wood revisited the site and remeasured the yew, recording 14′ 10” (4.53m). This was considerably lower than the 16’+ recorded earlier in the year, because the ground clearance had exposed 6” of bole, making accurate measurement possible.
