Bishopstone

The yew looked healthy. All the hedges in this lane are regularly trimmed and this includes the lower part of the yew. As a result it is covered in thick impenetrable deep green twiggy growth. A girth estimate was between 14′ and 16′. The top half of the tree is also regularly trimmed. In the more distant past thick branches have been removed and the results of this can be seen, but more recently they have not been allowed to reach any great size, no doubt because the telegraph wires that pass through its branches dictate that foliage is kept under control. The dense foliage throughout the tree made it impossible to assess whether it is solid or hollowing.
