Notes:

In 1856 Edwin Lees visited the site and described ‘monstrous, spreading yew trees now springing from the side of and overhanging the moat, and which appear to be about 400 years old’. The yews growing at this site today are much younger trees. Those close to the water are causing damage to the structure of the moat and are marked for removal. This was possibly the fate of the ‘monstrous’ yews which, had they survived, would be 500 yrs+ today.
