Tree sex: No data

Date of visit: 20/04/2024

Source of earliest mention: Owner

Notes:

The tree’s position on the edge of a steep slope has contributed to its development and present appearance. It is an extremely healthy specimen that receives more than its fair share of rainfall.
There were no signs of old pollen sacs, nor of arils developing and we will wait until later in the year to establish whether it is female.
Of the 4 main areas of growth (1) stretches away parallel to the path. Thick branches have been cut off in the past but the present owner intends to allow these to reach the ground and help support the weight.
(2) is an upright branch that has separated from (4) and internal growth can be seen in both pieces.
(3) stretches away from the top of the slope and many branches have reached the ground below. It is possible that closer inspection would show that some of these have rooted. The branch is open on one side and it is not obvious what caused this split.
Girth around all of the sections was 19′ 4” (589cm).
