Bucknell

Tree ID: 306

Yews recorded: Ancient 5m-7m

Tree girth: 579cm

Girth height: at 60cm

Tree sex: female

Date of visit: 11-Oct-99

Source of earliest mention: 1939: The King's England - Arthur Mee

Notes:

October 1999 – Tim Hills: The yew growing closest to the church is tall and narrow in appearance. Girth was 18′ 7” (566cm) at 2′.
September 2015 – Paul Wood: A tall narrow tree closest to the porch. The gravestones propped against the bole made it impossible to measure at the same height as in 1999. Instead 3” was chosen and a girth of 18′ 11” (577cm) was recorded. The classic horse shoe shape appears to be developing and internal stems could be seen. The gentleman who keeps the churchyard tidy said that lower twiggy growth was regularly trimmed and the tree certainly looked in good condition.
March 2022 – Tim Hills: A large branch fell from the tree in November 2021. As well as its removal, the overall height of the tree was reduced, leaving it in a much better position to withstand the next storms. I recorded a girth of exactly 19′ (570cm) at 2′.
