Source of earliest mention: 1880: T.H.Thomas in a paper read to the Cardiff NaturalistsÂ’ Society.

Notes:

In 1880 a female yew was recorded here. It was still alive in 1930, its girth 20′ 2” just below the lowest branch according to Hyde’s Welsh Timber Trees. No trace remains today. The Friends of St Mary’s church web site has provided the information that the yew was destroyed when vandals set fire to it on 6th July 1937. It was said to be 2000 years old.
