Notes:October 1999 – Tim Hills: In his 1791 History and Antiquities of the County of Somerset, Collinson described ‘a large yew tree, the trunk of which at 5′ measured 17′ in circumference’. The brickwork that can be seen filling the tree’s hollow was noted as long ago as 1894. It does not seem to have caused the tree any harm. Girths recorded were 16′ 5″ (500cm) just above the roots; 16′ 0″ (488cm) at 3′ and 13′ 2″ (401cm) at 5′.
2015 – Tim Hills: I recorded 16′ 11” (516cm) just above the roots; 16′ 1½” at 3′ and 13′ 6½” (413cm) at 5′.
