Notes:

Yew 231551 on the Ancient Tree Inventory website was recorded in 2023 as the tree beneath which Churchill and Beaverbrook allegedly had picnics in WW2. In 1998 its girth was measured by Andy McGeeny (AYG) as 455cm at 100cm. In 2023 Basil Watkins photographed a tree that has collapsed in three portions, two (east and west) of which are alive. The northern one, in the centre, is dead and has been cut back. The shape at the base, seen clearly in Andy McGeeney’s photograph, suggests that this is more likely to be the remains of the renowned ‘Cauliflower’ yew, first seen in a photograph in Lowe’s 1897 The Yew Trees of Great Britain and Ireland.
