Tree ID: 4399
Yews recorded: Ancient 5m-7m
Tree girth: 549cm
Girth height: not recorded
Tree sex: male
Date of visit: 3-May-14
Source of earliest mention: 2014: Tim Hills
Notes:May 2014 – Tim Hills: The veteran is the most westerly of a male/female pairing. We were in time to see evidence that this has been a significantly larger tree in the past. The second photo highlights a gash in the trunk behind which the hollow nature of this tree fragment is apparent. New wood has been laid down at its edges, and will eventually come together to completely enclose the hollow. Section A in the 3rd photo is still connected to the main tree. Girth around all of the pieces as shown was about 18ft. However it appears to me that B and C might once have been internal stems, and if that was the case the original outline of the tree would once have been larger still. At a height of about 10/12ft the trunk divides into two parallel risers.
