1999 – Tim Hills: Enlarged roots reach out from the tree at several places around its bole. A girth of 21′ 6” (655cm) above bulging roots was recorded in 1999.
March 2015 – Peter Norton: East Chiltington church was a chapel of ease to Westmeston from at least 1291. There is only one yew in the churchyard, this female growing west of the south porch. It is not known exactly when the hollow bole was filled with concrete. Over the years the interior has rotted away leaving some of this concrete infill just hanging. Measured above the spreading root system, minimum girth at root crown was 21′ 9” (663cm).
