Notes:August 1999 – Tim Hills: Two trees grow either side of the path leading to the church. That seen on the right approaching the church is much hollowed. Girth was estimated as between 12′ and 14′, though the appearance of the tree suggests that a large portion has been lost.
April 2016 – Paul Wood: All except one of the 10 common yews appeared to be of the age range 150 – 200 years. The notable yew grows at the SW corner of the church about 20 m from the building on the south side of the west entrance path. It grows on a curving bank of what appears to be an inner bank, suggesting that the churchyard was once smaller. While appearing similar to the others, closer inspection showed otherwise. Measured at a height of 2′ 7” beneath a large leader branch on the south side of the tree a girth of 13′ 1” (399cm) was recorded. A rotting internal stem sticks out on the north of the tree and the dead wood that still stands, as well as the slice of ground missing on the north side of the tree suggests to me that what we see today is the remains of a much larger tree. In years to come girth around the living wood will be little more than 8’/9′ and the tree’s appearance will be elongated rather than round / oval. The yew had an unusual deep purple and mustardy yellow colouration. All growth seems to be on the south side of the tree, which I would describe as a hollow shell with twisty gnarly pieces of dead wood and living wood entwined and with many holes and water pockets. Almost every tree in this churchyard had lichen and algae growing on it.
