Halford

Tree ID: 488

Yews recorded: Ancient 5m-7m

Tree girth: 615cm

Girth height: at the ground

Tree sex: male

Date of visit: 11-Oct-99

Source of earliest mention: The King's England - Arthur Mee

Notes:

October 1999 – Tim Hills: The yew is so ivy covered it was not possible to make out what lay beneath. It has been trimmed to a ball shape. Girth, which will have been affected by many ivy stems, was 20′ 8” (630cm) at the ground.
November 2015 – Paul Wood: The yew continues to be topiarized and is now more bell shaped. One side of the tree offered a small channel into the complex bole, full of twisting and turning growth – an astonishing piece of nature. At the ground I recorded a girth of 20′ 2” (615cm) after a little weed and scrub clearance. The tree looks well cared for and given the closeness of the church and graves it is perhaps understandable why it is kept trimmed.
