Hoo St. Werburgh

Tree ID: 513

Yews recorded: Ancient 5m-7m

Tree girth: No data

Girth height: not measurable

Tree sex: unspecified

Date of visit: 9-Jul-99

Source of earliest mention: 1936: The King's England - Arthur Mee

Notes:

The leaning trunk will soon be all that remains of the ‘very ancient yew, of great girth, with hollow trunk’ reported by Rev. L.J.Walters for Cornish (1946). The rest of the tree was destroyed by fire. Burn marks were still visible on the remaining piece of stump. The healthy living fragment stretches 8m from the trunk’s base, and seemed weighed down with new foliage.
