Source of earliest mention: 1897: The Yew-Trees of Great Britain and Ireland - John Lowe
Notes:September 2017 – Paul Wood: A yew was recorded by JC Loudon (1836) as 484cm girth. According to Lowe (The Yew Trees of Great Britain and Ireland – 1897) a yew at Kinlet had a girth of 15ft at 4ft and a height of 40ft. The Revd H.Case wrote in 1895 (probably in response to Lowe’s question) that ‘there is no tree at Kinlet’. It is possible he was only writing about yews in his churchyard. However, attempts to locate this sizeable yew on the land adjacent to the churchyard, belonging to Moffats School, has drawn a blank.
