Llanfeugan - ancient

Tree ID: 3823

Yews recorded: Ancient 5m-7m

Tree girth: 500cm

Girth height: at narrowest

Tree sex: female

Date of visit: 2-Jan-12

Source of earliest mention: 1995: Clwyd Powys Archaeological Trust

Notes:

January 1998 – Tim Hills: Tree 8 on plan, far west of the church. This is surely unacceptable. The area beneath the tree was being used as a store for decaying grasses, while a few planks were propped against its trunk. By January 2012 it has become a full store and workshop area. June 2016 – Paul Wood: Though still home to planks of wood and other objects, most of the materials stored here a few years earlier had been removed. With a little ingenuity it was possible to get the tape around the tree at the top of the root crown, its narrowest point. A girth of 16′ 5” (5.00m) was recorded. The tree looked in very good condition. Some rotting was visible suggesting that it is becoming hollow. The small size of the many branches suggested that it had a major cut back in the past. Growth over sawn off branches was visible in a few places.
