Llangasty Tal-y-llyn Lane

Tree ID: 4983

Yews recorded: Ancient 4m-5m

Tree girth: 462cm

Girth height: No data

Tree sex: female

Date of visit: 1-Jul-16

Source of earliest mention: 2016: Paul Wood

Notes:

A hollow squat female yew with sparse foliage and a distinct lack of lower limbs. It has been cut back for such a long period that the remains of some of the major limbs have gone and are almost grown over. Above a height of 2′ it has lost as many as 30 branches in order to keep access clear in the lane. I measured with a horizontal tape at the top of the root crown on the opposite side of the tree from the road. A girth of 15′ 2” (462cm) was recorded, but an allowance of a few inches should be made for the ivy stems and leaves. It seemed that a section of the tree has rotted away on the field side where there were also a number of rotten roots.
