Tree ID: 156
Yews recorded: Ancient 7m+
Tree girth: 729cm
Girth height: at the ground
Tree sex: male
Date of visit: 22-Nov-97
Source of earliest mention: 1986: Churchyard yews of Gwent - J.Daryll Evans
Notes:November 1997 – Tim Hills: Two fragments, the smaller pulling away from the larger. A metal brace around both fragments appears to be serving its purpose. At the time of our visit the churchyard had been tidied and the drying grass stored beneath the yew’s branches.
When I visited in 2000 a girth of 23′ 7” (719cm) at the ground was recorded, allowing the tape to rise above bulges.
By July 2014 this had increased to 23′ 11” (729cm) at the ground, allowing the tape to ride over a small section of root.
2017 – Peter Norton: The metal brace holding the fragmented section in place has cut into the outer trunk. I recorded a girth of 24′ 5” (744cm) using the embedded nails as a guide.
