Tree ID: 185
Yews recorded: Ancient 7m+
Tree girth: 838cm
Girth height: at 5cm
Tree sex: female
Date of visit: 5-Aug-98
Source of earliest mention: 1775: Rev Sir John Cullum -Suffolk Record Office
Notes:August 1998 – Tim Hills: Tree 1 on the plan. A vast yew with large hollow spaces growing NW of the church. Large holes indicate the removal of many branches.
October 2005 Tim Hills: With the ground around the tree tidied it was possible to fully appreciate this fine tree.
August 2006 Tim Hills: The final photo shows the potential fire hazard of a pile of drying wood beneath the tree. Unfortunately this is a common practice in churchyards.
November 2017 – Paul Wood: The yew looked fine but with thinning foliage. The bole has a covering of ivy on the north, west and east sides and a clump of twiggy growth on the west side. On the south side of the tree its inner workings are revealed. A large plastic bin was too heavy to move and prevented measurement of the tree.
March 2017 Peter Norton: Unable to measure due to ivy. Cavity of tree filling up with dried flowers etc. There was much ivy on all the yews.
