Notes:It would seem that the base of the tree was once at the bottom of the wall. Excavations at various stages of development of the nearby farmhouse have raised the ground level and gradually covered the origins of this tree. From the garden side there appears a huge solid looking trunk with branching from 5ft and the main stem developing at a height of about 10ft. Substantial new stems have developed at the edges of the tree. Foliage was a vigorous green. There were no signs of hollowing, this probably all happened below what we see now. Girth was about 24ft.
