Tree ID: 3515

Yews recorded: Lost

Tree girth: 280cm

Girth height: No data

Tree sex: unspecified

Date of visit: 18-Jun-11

Source of earliest mention: 1797: Gentleman's Magazine

Notes:

Today a yew grows in the same position as that shown in the 1815 engraving. Its appearance gives no indication that it might be one of the original fragments. There are two possibilities to consider, firstly that when the ailing fragments were felled, basal shoots from one of these developed into a new tree. Secondly and most likely is that a new yew was planted at around the time of the engraving, since the girth of 9′ 2” would be about right for a 200 year old tree.
