Rockbourne - Palmer's Copse

Tree ID: 2977

Yews recorded: Ancient 5m-7m

Tree girth: 521cm

Girth height: at root crown

Tree sex: female

Date of visit: 10-Mar-09

Source of earliest mention: 2009: Peter Andrews

Notes:

March 2009 – Peter Andrews: The yew grows on a steep bank above a hollow holding water. A fine tall tree – perhaps 50-60ft in height.
July 2014 – Peter Norton: The yew is close to Palmers Copse but not in it. Palmers is a working copse and its boundary is marked. The large female yew grows from the top of a steep bank and overlooking a large hollow. Measured at the root crown (about 6” from the top of the bank) a girth of 17′ 1” (521cm) was recorded. In the bole, about 4′ from the ground, was the nest of a tree creeper. I have observed this several times this year in old yew trees.
