Tree ID: 837

Yews recorded: Ancient 5m-7m

Tree girth: 564cm

Girth height: at 15cm

Tree sex: male

Date of visit: 22-Jun-02

Source of earliest mention: 1845: Rambles by Rivers:The Avon - James Thorne

Notes:

June 2002 Tim Hills: Many lower branches cut off and remnants at the ground suggest it has been a larger girthed tree. An unusually straight and twisted trunk. Girth will diminish further when pieces of stump decay. Foliage was thin and there were many brown leaves. Girth of 18′ 6” (564cm) between the ground and 1′ includes the stump.
2008 – Stephanie Townsend: A girth of 421cm (13′ 10”) at 60cm. A long, clean, twisted bole and cut stems below 1m. Has oak, ash and bramble growing out of it. Poor condition.
2014: No foliage in the topmost branches but the tree continues to grow successfully from several points in the lower crown.
