Notes:September 2009 – Tim Hills: A ‘fine old yew’ was described in 1858 as growing near to the ‘shaft of the old church-yard cross, standing on an octagonal base’. Since this feature is found north of the chancel and the yew grows NE of the church, we should consider the possibility that what appears to be a young yew might be regrowth from the original old tree. The large space in which it grows suggests there might have been a more substantial tree here in the past.
