Notes:Here are two fallen yews, located about 200m from the Betty Kenny yew. Despite perhaps half of the roots being exposed they have continued to grow. Both have multiple trunks but the bigger of the two is the most extensive yew, in terms of overall footprint, that I have seen. The two yews are close together and have fallen in the same direction, making it possible that the same weather event upended both trees. The way the trees have fused and expanded is remarkable. The smaller is 74 paces around, an enormous sphere of foliage that comprises many new upright branches. The larger is among the most amazing yews I have ever seen, far larger in surface area than its 74-pace neighbour, now spanning a small streamlet with horizontal pipe-like boughs linking one new upright trunk to its rather distant neighbour. Since they are also linked by roots and this above-ground bough I surmise that the whole grove is one organism.
