Springhill House - Magherafelt

The tree recorded here is the largest of several yews growing by the 17th century house. Descriptions of the yews have ranged from ‘a grove of 12 ancient yew trees’ to ‘several very old yew trees (one said to be 1000 years old)’. Both of these descriptions exaggerate the ages of these trees, the largest of which is recorded as having a girth of 4.16m (13′ 8”) by the Tree Register of Ireland.
