Stoke sub Hamdon

Tree ID: 2943

Yews recorded: Ancient 4m-5m

Tree girth: 424cm

Girth height: at the base

Tree sex: male

Date of visit: 25-Sep-08

Source of earliest mention: 2008: Barry Saich

Notes:

July 2009 – Tim Hills: The yew grows on the south side of the church. Twiggy growth gives it the appearance of a larger tree than it really is, and at its base it is less than 14′ in girth. It appears to be solid, with numerous branches from 8′. An oil tank on a concrete base stands only 1m from the tree. There was also a huge composting grass heap only 2m from tree.
2016 – Tim Hills: I was able to tape around the base of the tree and recorded 13′ 11” (424cm). Measured a few feet higher would produce a considerably larger girth.
