Notes:The National Trust writes as follows: ‘A yew tree that has grown into the ground and sprouted again, creating a room under the canopy. Probably pre-dates the garden and was part of Stowe village, which stood in the area’. This interesting male yew grows on the bank that leads down to one of the small lakes. A fine upright bole that once had twelve branches that swept to the ground creating a mini-grove. Those branches have been cut away but the successful layerings (12) are doing well and a few have sub-layered at least three times. The girth was recorded as 15′ 8” at root crown and 16′ 4”at 3′. The yew is found at SP6774237215. Also recorded by the Ancient Tree Hunt – ATH78594.
