Source of earliest mention: 1869: Granville W.G.Leveson Gower
Notes:The yew would have grown SE of the church that was demolished in the late eighteenth century. It appears solid, but there are hollow spaces, some filled with concrete after the removal of branches. This is a fine expansive tree growing vigorously.
Granville W.G.Leveson Gower in 1869 thought ‘it may well be considered to be six to eight hundred years old’. He recorded a girth of 19′ 6” at 5′.
137 years later I recorded 21′ 10” at that height, an increase in girth of 2′ 4” in 137 years.
A more reasonable measure of 552cm (18′ 1”) at 20cm was made by the ATI in 2020.
