1999: Here is a classic example of a vase shaped bole, swelling from 16′ 6″ (503cm) at the ground, recorded in 1999, to 761cm (25′) at 1m, recorded in 1986 by J.Daryll Evans in The Churchyard Yews of Gwent. He described the bole as ‘relatively solid for a tree of this size, though with hollow areas’. The main branch (A) rises from the centre of the tree, while upright and angled branches (B) grow from a shelf all around the edge.
