Upper Chapel (Dyffryn Honddu)

Tree ID: 3857

Yews recorded: Notable

Tree girth: 363cm

Girth height: at 60cm

Tree sex: male

Date of visit: 1-Mar-12

Source of earliest mention: 1970: Brecon Yew Survey

Notes:

Tree 4 on the plan, north of the church. A hollow male with the first photo showing where a branch facing the church was removed. In 2001 my notes read that elder was growing as tall as the tree. Much work has since been carried out here to try and keep this under control.
Girth in 2012 was 11′ 11” (363cm) at 2′.
Paul Wood April 2016: Tree as recorded in 2012 except for the encroachment of ivy, bramble and a large pile of rubbish spread around the tree. The ivy has grown right up into the canopy and covered about 85% of the tree. It seemed that this tree was in need of attention.
With a girth of under 4m the tree is presently classified as notable. Because it displays veteran characteristics it will in the future be classified as V-con (veteran on account of its condition).
