Venn Chapel

Tree ID: 2222

Yews recorded: Ancient 4m-5m

Tree girth: 475cm

Girth height: at 0-30cm

Tree sex: female

Date of visit: 8-Apr-06

Source of earliest mention: 2006 Tim Hills

Notes:

This is an excellent example of an elongated bole, breaking into three great upright branches at 6’/8′. These grow parallel to each other with further subdividing, presenting a tree of five branches rising to a considerable height. If this tree was planted when the Chapel was established in 1816, it might provide evidence of rapid growth in yews with elongated trunks. It might also be considered that the tree was here before Venn Chapel was built and indicates that this was a site of worship before the Chapel was built.
