Westhide

Tree ID: 123

Yews recorded: Ancient 4m-5m

Tree girth: 455cm

Girth height: at 30cm

Tree sex: male

Date of visit: 21-Aug-05

Source of earliest mention: 1903: Woolhope Papers

Notes:

August 2005 – Tim Hills: The tree has undergone major branch removal between a height of 6′ and 10′. It has a bulging bole above a height of 3′ with many young branches. Ivy growing right into the branches concealed much detail, but this had been cut and will hopefully help restore the tree to its 1903 description: ‘The yew tree at the SE corner of the churchyard is a fine one’. Girth was 14′ 11” (455cm) at 1′.
2017 – Paul Wood: The yew was much changed from its 2005 description and photographs. About two thirds of its bole was appears to be of dead wood. I recorded a girth of 15′ 3” (465cm) at 1′.
