Westmeston

Tree ID: 1770

Yews recorded: Ancient 5m-7m

Tree girth: 556cm

Girth height: at the ground

Tree sex: male

Date of visit: 28-Mar-04

Source of earliest mention: 1946: The Churchyard Yew and Immortality-Cornish

Notes:

2004 Tim Hills: The yew is male and grows SW of the church. It appears solid, but gaps on its east side close to the road reveal large hollow spaces within. Its large girth is retained for about 20′, at which point the tree appears to have been truncated. Girth was 18′ 3” (556cm) at the ground, allowing tape to rise over roots. March 2015 Peter Norton: One male yew grows just southwest of the tower, it overhangs the road and has some minor branches low down on the south side of the tree. Measured at 1′ (just below the branch growth) girth was 18′ 3” (556cm). In the extended graveyard is a millennium yew.
